On August 17, Mario Theissen, our Grand Prix Drivers Club vice-president and former Director of BMW Motorsport, celebrated his 70th birthday.
Born in Monchau in Germany his life has been dominated by cars and motorsport and had a brilliant career with BWM that took him all over the world. He is a true engineer and so was ideal for the motorsport post in 1999 when BMW returned to racing. He not only was responsible for the company’s return to Formula 1 but all of BMWs operations including Touring cars. Since being elected Vice President of the Club Mario has done a lot of work behind the scenes and all the members send him greetings on his Birthday.
