Catastrophe For Kazuki

Grand Prix Drivers Club member Kazuki Nakajima had the ultimate nightmare finish at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race last weekend.

Leading the race by over a minute in his factory Toyota TS 050 Hybrid and with less than five minutes to go before the 4.00 pm finish on Sunday the car came to a halt. Kazuki tried to restart the engine and kept trying. However, the Neel Jani Porsche 919 Hybrid passed to snatch the lead and complete one more lap to take an unexpected victory with Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb.

Eventually Kazuki did get the engine to restart and crossed the line. He was originally credited with second place but this was overturned and the Toyota was finally classified 45th and a non-finisher. It was little wonder that Kazuki was distressed after the race as it would have been a tremendous victory for the Team after being out of racing for fifteen years.
