Just over a week ago Bernie Ecclestone, one of our honorary members of the Grand Prix Drivers Club reached the challenging age of 89 and celebrated close on 70 years involvement in motor racing yet it seems not long ago he was racing at Brands Hatch in far from the best racing equipment and showing the kind of dogged guts and determination that has taken him from grass roots to running the whole show.

Though he has retired from the Formula 1 motor racing scene he still pops up at events such as the Russian Grand Prix this year, see above. His occasional words on the sport today and observations continue to reflect his straight forward down to earth approach to the often peculiar world of grand prix racing.

Happy Birthday Bernie from all the members of the Grand Prix Drivers Club.
