Grand Prix Drivers Club members may well have retired from Formula 1 but they are still active in racing and last weekend two of our members had wins.
Tiago Monteiro, who only joined the Club two months ago, launched is season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship by winning the first round in this year’s series at the Moulay El Hassan circuit in Morocco.
Tiagoo put his Honda Civic on pole position in practice however as the first race was run under a reverse grid rule he actually started from 10th place and finished 6th. “ I chose not to take too many risks so as not to compromise my chances of victory in the second race”.
In the second race he was quickly into his stride and took the lead and despite a safety car period he ran out the winner and so takes the lead in the World Championshp.
The circuit suited the Honda but this many not be the case at the next round at Monza.
Meanwhile at Silverstone Mike Wilds and Dino Zamparelli won Class 2 in the first race of the 2017 Britcar 50 minute endurance series. Driving for FF Corse in a Ferrari 458 Challenge Mike had a slow start in a race headed by Javier Morcello’s Mosler but later in the race Dino Zamparelli took the lead and he and Wilds came home the Class winners.
